E-1 Cadet Seaman Recruit C/SR None *There is no collar device for this rate.
*Assigned to new cadets in the process of learning the NJROTC program.
E-2 Cadet Seaman Apprentice C/SA *Collar device is two silver diagonal stripes.
*When qualified, recruits can advance to SA in the first year.
E-3 Cadet Seaman C/SN *Collar device is three silver diagonal stripes.
*When qualified, cadets can advance SN in the first year.
E-4 Cadet Petty Officer Third Class C/PO3 *The collar device is a perched eagle over one chevron.
*When qualified, cadets can advance to PO3 in the first year.
*Assignments include squad leaders, assistant squad leaders, drill teams, and drum and bugle corps.
E-5 Cadet Petty Officer Second Class C/PO2 *The collar device is an eagle perched over two chevrons.
*When qualified, cadets can advance to PO2 in the first year.
*Assignments include squad leaders, color escorts in platoons, drill teams, color guards and drum and bugle corps.
E-6 Cadet First Class Petty Officer C/PO1 *Collar device is a perched eagle over three chevrons.
*Outstanding cadets can achieve PO1 in their first year, but it is usually achieved in the second year.
*Assignments include platoon guides, color bearers, drill team guides, color bearers, and supply assistants.
E-7 Cadet Chief Petty Officer C/CPO *Collar device is an eagle perched over a fouled anchor.
*Cadets can recieve CPO in their second year.
*Assignments include company chief, platoon chief, color bearer, drill team chief, or rifle team chief.
E-8 Cadet Senior Chief Petty Officer C/SCPO *Collar device is an eagle with one star on its heard perched over a fouled anchor.
*Outstanding cadets can achieve this in their second year, but this is generally achieved in the third year.
*The NSI may assign a Senior Chief Petty Officer rate to the company chief petty officer.
E-9 Cadet Master Chief Petty Officer C/MCPO *Collar device is an eagle with two stars, one on each wing, perched on a fouled anchor.
*Generally a third year cadet.

*Generally a fourth year cadet.
*Assignments include operations officers, administrations officers, and academic team commanders.
O-4 Cadet Lieutenant Commander C/LCDR *Collar device is four attached gold bars.
*Generally the most outstanding of the fourth year cadets.
*Highest rank of unit strength.
*Assignments include company commanding officers, company executive officers, and battalion and regiment executive officers.
O-5 Cadet Commander C/CDR *Collar device is five attached gold bars.
*The highest rank attained by an NJROTC cadet.
*Generally achieved by the fourth year cadet with the highest leadership capabilities.
*Assignments include battalion and regimental commanding officers.
